    Asian immigrants currently outnumber Hispanic immigrants, but today's changes in the electorate come from immigrants from the 80s and 90s, maybe a few from a decade ago.

    You have to be here at least 5 years just to apply for citizenship.  Realistically, many immigrants, due to mere inertia or other more substantive reasons, don't get around to it for much longer than that.  So today's immigrants realistically don't matter as voters or potential voters for at least a decade.

    Hispanics were the dominant immigrant group pre-recession, and their growth is what matters most for the current decade.
