When I saw this article, I had a sense political operatives and their media stenographers had used the term job killing meme frequently but it was still shocking to see how frequently:

Two academics reviewed the use of the term “job killer” in major media outlets going back to 1984.

They found the number of news stories alleging that some government reform would be a “job killer” increased by 1,156% between the first three years of the George W. Bush administration and the first three years of the Obama administration.

There is some good news to be found about this out-of-control meme. It is not working:
    GOP adjusts health care strategy

"Speaker John Boehner recently told Republicans in a private meeting to change their tone on health care and fast: stop using “job-killing” to describe the Obama health care law.

Instead, emphasize that the law drives up costs and makes things worse for small businesses.

Why? The job-killing message was polling poorly, sources said.

The episode underscores both the GOP’s recognition that it needs to be ready to respond to the Supreme Court’s looming decision on the health care law and the delicacy with which Republicans must fashion that response.”

The choice of our lifetime: Mitt Romney, It Takes A Pillage or President Barack Obama, Forward Together.
