according to dem memo from last week:

In the 13-page memo, the Democrats said it would be a violation of federal law for Mr. Holder to provide the documents, because many of them are from grand jury testimony and are part of the Justice Department’s continuing prosecutions.

...“Holding the attorney general in contempt of Congress for protecting these documents is an extreme and blatant abuse of the Congressional contempt power that undermines the credibility of the committee,” a staff memo released by the committee’s Democrats said.

I gotta say, that's a way better defense than whining about election-year politics. Hell, if election year is what it takes for Congress to actually perform meaningful oversight of the Executive Branch, I'm all for it. Keyword: Meaningful.

IOW, if Issa were making hay out of some legitimate breach of transparency, I'd be rooting for him. Fuck the unitary executive. But demanding that the AG compromise a grand jury proceeding is not legitimate.

concise, appropriate messaging, let alone pounding it once it's been put on the table.
They are good at hand wringing, capitulation, and running around in circles when things get testy.
It's difficult not to feel a squeak cynical about this reality, particularly when two bit crooks like Issa are permitted to run amok because of it.

if you argued that that can't count as getting the word out, I might have to back down!
