    here in Oregon.  I'll look into it.  It would be great if things could work that way, but I don't know how far this style of teaching could spread.  A lot of parents are just not prepared for hands-on, out-in-the-community learning.  Where are the desks?  Why is it so noisy?  Many adults still want silent attention and politely raised hands.

    Can you call yourself a real liberal if you aren't reading driftglass?

      and I'm not meaning that suddenly all schools should be Emerson-style, but it does belie the notion that public schools have to teach instruction style to the test and standards.

      And I'd ask those adults who want silent attention and politely raised hands how that's working out for them these days.
