word "bitchslap" in a sentence? That personally offended you so much that it required an HR? Please...

    •  Yes, a word that means (2+ / 0-)

to commit violence against a woman is offensive.

Of course, it's fine if people you agree with do that sort of thing.

Again, if you're fine uprating casual sexism that's your prerogative.

There revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.

in all contexts, and certainly not in the context in which it was used. But then, you already knew that.

        •  Yes, it is used metaphorically (0+ / 0-)

but that doesn't erase what it actually means.

HRs, you can make a big deal about anything even remotely off-color. Whatever.

            •  You're right, we should confront (0+ / 0-)

sexism because then we might lose our sense of humor and be too easily offended..

Maybe you could come up with an original argument against confronting sexist language next time.

              •  When you call everything sexist, (0+ / 0-)

you demean the importance of the (very real) issue of sexism. You are using sexism as an excuse to HR another community member who you have a disagreement with. By using sexism as a personal tool, you are guilty of something much more insidious than the person you are trying to crucify here. Shame on you for that.

                •  The term he used (0+ / 0-)

specifically "bitchslap" is in fact sexist.   How is that not obvious?

I HRed one damn comment because it contained a sexist remark, how the hell is that a personal tool?

                  What a joke.

                  •  You do not even know what it (0+ / 0-)

means. It does not mean to slap a woman. It is used when a woman slaps a man. So much for your "violence against women" theory.

                    •  Oh good lord, yes I do know what it means (0+ / 0-)

and where it comes from.  It refers to a backhanded slap, generally portrayed as a pimp slapping his "bitch".  Come back when you learn some actual etymology.
