    Once upon a time, I read almost everything he wrote.  Same thing with Chandler.  

    Hammett's character comes through in every line, as lean as he was.  His style affected generations of writers and will on into the future.

      out of the hands of the English and created and popularized an entire new genre of realistic detective mysteries.

      Next week I will be exploring Chandler and how he describes the changes that Hammett introduced.

        Years ago, I read all the Hammett and Chandler stuff I could get my hands on, so I'll be looking forward to next week. Would also love to read your take on Ross McDonald, if you have information on his career!
