.....the PBS video of the production with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury?  Which version you saw will obviously inform your reaction.

which was agony (for me) to watch.

      •  the particular production, or the show itself? (1+ / 0-)

If you don't like the show from the get-go, then obviously even the best production may not help.

        •  3CM, even I twitched at seeing Lansbury (0+ / 0-)

Of course, I saw her after seeing two other performers in the same role doing the same song.

          She was Too. Much. Camp.

If you accept that her performance is total Camp: she's great.  She really is.

          But, subtle she is NOT.

And that's really saying something, considering the two other performances I saw weren't exactly exemplars of subtlety.

To make the argument that the media has a left- or right-wing, or a liberal or a conservative bias, is like asking if the problem with Al-Qaeda is do they use too much oil in their hummus. Al Franken

          •  Well, maybe CCC is right and (0+ / 0-)

it was the performance, not the musical.  I have no way of knowing.  It's the only version I've seen.

I also gritted my teeth through the PBS production of Dr. Jekyll starring the Baywatch dude who gets drunk and eats hamburgers on Youtube, whatever his name is.  Ugh.

          •  late reply #3; who were the other two? (0+ / 0-)

One assumes they were live productions, in NYC or Philly.
