  •  Statistically that's gonna happen. But it's no (24+ / 0-)

easier to bear if it's a drunken citizen who kills your kid, surely been too many of that also.

The problem is that we don't take DUII seriously as a crime.  I figured out once that for every 100 DUII arrests, there'd be one DUII related traffic death.

You have exactly 10 seconds to change that look of disgusting pity into one of enormous respect!

    •  It is for sure a horrible thing to lose a child (3+ / 0-)

I think it is more the backwards way we look at alcohol in this country.

And I think we take drunk driving very seriously. I know of no state where you can't get bracelets for blowing a .08. That would be you going out to your anniversary getting a bottle of wine and having a glass.

As far as I know most places are mandatory minimums just for the DD.

If you were drunk and caused an accident absent the person doing something negligent as well you probably are going to get some form of manslaughter.

What are the stats in Europe? What are the stats in cities where public transportation is freely available (I doubt there are many cab companies available to these people). What about Deaths at night? What percentage of people are technically drunk and do not get pulled over?

Maybe if instead of treating alcohol as some accomplishment on getting your 21st, and people drank reasonably as it was not a big deal you would not have this problem. Or ok come down to the Casino get wasted, how are you going to pay? Well sorry we have no trains you drove right? Oh you want to sleep in your car because you're drunk, well that's actually a crime also that has an alchol spec (unless you sleep in the back and don't have the keys).

Our culture and alcohol are you can't have a sip of win at Olive Garden then when you go to College you have no clue how to handle the innundation. You learn nothing except where accepts fake ID's.

I take nothing away from a horrific crime like this.

And what are sadistic practices. But DUI laws are tough. Our understanding of alcohol is lax.
