    I rarely take vacation-y vacations.  We usually visit relatives in NJ & PA, most of whom are either very young or rapidly dwindling, and I try to see my oldest BFF (from third grade) who is on dialysis and awaiting a double transplant.

    Even our vaction-y vacations involve visiting friends and relations.  It's hard not to.  We went to Ireland last year but timed it so we could see friends from Wales while they were visiting grandchildren outside of Cork.

    It's great you can see your mom and that you are able to do so while you can.  Where else would you go if you could?  Might she go with you?  My sainted mother and I talked about visiting London together but never did.  :-(
