to find out if we were eligible for any subsidies.  To my utter amazement, we are eligible for more than half of our premiums as a tax credit.  It blew my mind, because we are not poor; not rich either :-)

The out-of-pocket maximums are much lower than we currently face, with a $2,500 per person deductibel per year ($10,000 for all 5 of us) under the ACA, for the whole family, would be $6,250.  That's a family of 5, with 3 of us having "pre-existing conditions".

No payments for preventative maintenance (as hubby calls it).

So, the $3,000 bill I received from the CT company would be paid.  The $7,000 bill I received from the hospital after the hysterectomy would be paid.  We never would have had $50,000 in medical debt after the issues of the youngest son......$6,250 would be it, for all of us.

No limits on the insurance company payouts.

Employer-based coverage doesn't even change!  If you have employer-based coverage now, nothing in your life changes EXCEPT you can opt out of that for something less-expensive and better.  Once that starts happening en masse, employers jump on the single payer plan (why they don't now is a fuckin' mystery to me).

I really don't get it.  It almost seems like it has to be free or nothing.  That's not how it's going to work in the USA.  So, keep working to advance the ball a few yards.

David Koch is fucking Longshanks, and Occupy is the real Braveheart.
