  •  Because the government is involved (7+ / 0-)

in debt, deeply.  And also, and more so, because Paul is the only person in either major party questioning some serious tenets of our society at a time when no visible figures really are.

That's not to say he has good questions or answers, but he's doing something others aren't and that resonates greatly.

There revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.

Oh, for a Democrat who would take these valid core issues away from Crazy Republican Uncle and run with them.

Barney Frank not good enough for you?

          •  What difference does that make? (0+ / 0-)

Also, Paul only brings up these war issues and drug in debates to attract liberal vote. I remember him once saying "my goal is to bring the youth vote Republican". Only recently has he been a major anti-war advocate (though he was always libertarian leaning., he voted for the Afghanistan War and supported Ronald Reagan). By supporting him, you play right into his hands.

            •  Would you disagree with the assessment that (0+ / 0-)

              — to take just one concrete issue — regarding war with Iran (be it the secret one the Obama administration is already waging, or outright bombing by the U.S. or Israel), there isn't that much actual difference between the President's and Romney's positions?

Do you think that in a democracy it's wrong for voters to want to see a real difference in the two parties' foreign policy positions once in a while?

              •  Do you agree... (0+ / 0-)

...that Ron Paul has ABSOLUTELY ZERO CHANCE OF BECOMING PRESIDENT? EVER. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION.

Give it up. Get practical. Here's all the reason you need to do so: http://owsposters.tumblr.com/...

              •  There is a very clear difference (0+ / 0-)

Obama is not waging a "secret war", he is just imposing sanctions on an unstable country. Yes, he put war on the table, but that was for negotiation purposes. He's made it clear that all diplomatic measures will be tried and that war would be a last resort.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney says that he would immediately go to war (before Iran would do anything) without Congressional approval. For the President to be able to do that without any authorization of military force would be ridiculous (at least in Libya we were in there under a foreign treaty).

If you don't think there is a difference between Romney and Obama, then you don't understand how American politics works.

              •  No, I do not agree with anything in your statement (0+ / 0-)

First, there is no "secret" war Obama is waging against Iran.  Second, there are huge, major economic and social differences between Obama and Romney.   You must not be paying attention.

Rand Paul is not a viable candidate for anything.

          •  Furthermore (0+ / 0-)

The original post claimed that Ron Paul was "the only one" talking about these issues, and that "the Dems" did not share those viewpoints.

    •  Can we please stop praising Paul? (0+ / 0-)

There's plenty of Democrats who take up every "progressive" position he has. Make no mistake, a Paul presidency would be disastrous.

      •  Pretty sure ... (0+ / 0-)

.... you're the first one to mention "presidency" for Paul in this thread. ;)

I think it's just a case of us being grouchy with our "own" party for always working within the Republican frames on the M-I complex, and for all his faults, at least Paul is making some degree of headlines for questioning it.

Kucinich did as well, but since there's been no primary race for the Dems this year, that viewpoint has gone unheard.

        •  But the last thing we want (0+ / 0-)

Is to be praising any Republican. Romney probably agrees with me more on NASA spending than many Democrats. Should I be praising Republicans every time they say something I agree with on NASA?

It's true that the current administration has made some mistakes in the area of foreign policy. But he's still made some improvements for progressives (for example, cutting military spending for the first time in many years). Better to praise other Democrats for mentioning such issues in their campaigns than praising a Republican.

    •  Rand Paul is an complete idiot (0+ / 0-)

Some of the stuff he says sounds new to right wingers because the statements are based on 50 year old liberal ideas. It sounds new to kids because many of today's democrats have given up their heritage.

All the rest of him is crap. Like the rest of libertarianism, it's a mere apologia for oligarchy.
