  •  We do need help (6+ / 0-)

but so many see our state as a lost cause or a joke. It's sad and disheartening.

    •  I'm not sure (13+ / 0-)

anyone knows how to run a statewide campaign in Texas anymore. That is why I said start with the Triangle and a few other places and build from there.

yes, its a huge state, but it can be tackled in chunks. :)

      •  GOTV, and not registration, is our issue south... (4+ / 0-)

...of the Nueces River. The constable and JP type candidates, usually Hispanic themselves, get people registered. But these candidates GOTV only during the primaries. It's up to the county and state parties to GOTV in November. Certainly registration drives are important, but not as much as it might seem, even in minority areas.

We can blame the people all we want for not turning out to vote, but there is no substitute to organizing and executing GOTV drives as a way to getting poor and minority people to vote. The bad news is that we, as activists, are to blame for low voter turn-outs. The good news is that it is in our hands to change it.

mostly blue keep hitting the high spots. I know Dems want to turn Tarrant County (Fort Worth) blue and are working hard to do it.

Tex, regarding the census data, how many Indians are in Texas and where? You know Meteor Blades did a piece on that, and while I know Texas was mostly cleansed, there must be some here.

        •  There are a few tribes, but not many. (1+ / 0-)

There are the Alabama Coushatta out in east TX, but I don't know of many others beyond that. They are pretty darn disenfranchised. The state has done some pretty terrible things to the local tribes.
