what's so HORRIFIC about this 'scandal'?

Fast and Furious is a horrific scandal. The public deserves answers as to who devised the operation and what they hoped to accomplish.

    •  It was pure stupidity. (13+ / 0-)

BATF tried this during the GWB admin, and it didn't work then. So, the guy who was the mastermind of that failure devised another, similar program with even fewer safeguards, and put it into action. They let guns go to criminals in a foreign nation with no way of tracking them once they crossed the border. And apparently didn't tell Mexican authorities what they were doing.

      What could possibly go wrong?

This was some stupid shit, but Issa and the Repugs are more interested by far in hanging this around Obama's neck by calling it a plot to institute gun control, than they are in getting to the bottom of why this was even done in the first place. I'm sure they view the timing as fortuitous too-it allows them to distract attention from the DOJ investigation of their voter-suppression shenanigans in Florida.

I don't think Darrell Issa gives a damn about cartel members killing each other (or anyone else, for that matter) in Mexico.

      •  the guns are walking across the border anyway (6+ / 0-)

even if BATF had never tried this.

Since there are too many to track, and the agents can't even seize the guns legally, I'm not sure what the point was of either this or Wide Receiver under Bush.

        •  actually they recently started searching cars (6+ / 0-)

heading south and confiscating any contraband including guns and ammunition.....they being Border Patrol or whatever they call them now

That's one thing I was always super careful of was to thoroughly clean my truck before crossing because even a single ,22 round is enough for jail on the Mexican side and I often have a stray round or two rattling around somewhere......

The F&F guns only account for ~3% of the American guns flowing into Mexico, so there is some way to get them across.

dope cross this way so using the same smuggling routes some will get back to Mexico...

However we have really cracked down on the situation and we've been fed more lies with the 90% figure of where the guns come from...

here's an interesting PDF that breaks down the real numbers....basically 90% is the figure for the traceable guns actually turned in to batfe which is closer to 12% of all the guns getting in to Mexico....

The really dangerous stuff like the grenades and RPGs and full auto weapons don't come from us, they come from South America (some of which we did supply but not to the cartels)

      •  Issa channeling Rove (9+ / 0-)

making this an issue so we start jabbering about gun control revisions and look, once again, like democrat gun grabbers.

        In an election year.

Sorry Issa, we're on to that bullshit and won't get fooled again.

It's people like you, Issa, that politicize everything and make things harder to enforce or improve.

People like you, Issa,  are responsible for the stupid and wasteful 'War on Drugs'.

The money and lives wasted locking up pot smokers and growers could be used for better enforcement of current gun laws, something egregiously lacking...yet we don't see you grandstanding about that.

        lying chump.
