  •  And he says in one of his campaign stump (12+ / 0-)

speeches that one of the things he's going to do on day one is declare that China is a currency manipulator as well as add a tariff (which means TAX) to imports from China.

For me, Mitt reminds me of Jeff Bridges in Starman. He's like an alien that hasn't read the entire manual. You know, he's going, "Nice to be in a place where the trees are the right size." -- Robin Williams on Letterman 26 Apr 2012

If he's accusing China of manipulating the currency, it's what he wants to do and is frustrated not to have accomplished as much as he wants.
As a person who exists in the ineffable present, Willard's envy is also prompted by his dad, even though the latter is long dead.  It's envy of the quest for the Presidency that propels him now.

But, the currency is the key to China's economic success.  China discovered that paying people to work is much more effective than coercing them with threats of starvation.  Threats of starvation prompt people to plant more rice and greens and cultivating fish. Distributing currency with which these staples can be bought gets them to use their time and energy for something else -- working together to transform their environment into a human-friendly space.  Currency is key. Pouring it into an area does not jump-start the economy, but draining it away does shut it down.
Wall Street crashed the economy by draining the money away and playing with it.

Remember the money changers?  Driving them out of the temple is not enough.

Willard's forte = "catch 'n' cage" People to Wall Street, "let our money go."

    •  Which is the only type of tax he would raise (3+ / 0-)

Because the second you slap a tariff on Chinese imports, that tax gets passed on to the American consumer. They would love to get a little more cash out of every middle class American that is already forced to do all of their shopping at Walmart because it has run every other business in a 20 mile radius out of town.
