and I was particularly struck by this from Bush last night:

"One of my concerns after September the 11th is the farther away we got from September the 11th, the more relaxed we would all become and assume that there wasn't an enemy out there ready to hit us. And I just can't let the American people -- I'm not going to let them down by assuming that the enemy is not going to hit us again."

Read that last sentence a few times. There are two ways to read it: one benign, the other sinister.

Why the hell does Bush insist on saying "September THE 11th" every damn time?  It's almost as grating as "noo-q-lar" and "Democrat party."

(not the MOST sinister interpretation, which is preparing us for another actual attack or war, but one that jumped out at me...)

One of my concerns after September the 11th is the farther away we got from September the 11th, the less scared the American people would become, and realize that I'm an absolutely terrible president.  And I just can't let the American people see what a horrible leader I've been, and how badly I've damaged this country.  So I want to ramp up the fear again, to stop my rapdily plummeting approval ratings.

And yeah, agreed that "September THE Eleventh" is very annoying.  It's just another way of trying to reinforce the mythic dimensions of that day, and, by extension, himself.  Too late, Chimpster.
