  •  It's social forces on the ground (0+ / 0-)

not  big names in high places, that determine how these things work out.  This is a lesson the far0right Rube party gets, while the center-right Dems align themselves upward with the individual careerism of big name politicians and the interests of the Centers of Power.  The result has been the erosion of the organized base which imposed the reforms you mention above (and others off at least similar importance) on the ruling class.

At the same time, while the Dems navel-gaze on the DC-K Street-Wall Street axis, the Rubes have been the ones building the ground-level social forces through their church and radio networks, while utterly dessicating and frequently entirely destroying the ground-level forces pushing vaguely left-leaning agendas.  Which Dem raised a finger to stop the destruction of ACORN?  Would Harry Truman or Lyndon Johnson have been satisfied to do no more than send a single "tweet" in the direction of the Wisconsin showdown over collective bargaining?

Why and how these things happen is no accident and no mystery.   The Poli-Sci School outlook of today's Dem "experts" and "strategists" ensures that the same process will continue to unfold, as not a single one of them has clue one about the nature and significance of social forces.
