    •  People like the Romneys who have never had to (6+ / 0-)

worry about money think it's cute to live for a short time in relative penury (relative to their own experience, that is). They remember it fondly because they always knew it was temporary.
If the Romneys were living on the results of a few thousand dollars invested in shares that went from $6 to $96 (according to Ann Romney), that  means that they had about $50,000 dollars.
During those same years (late 1960's-early 1970's), I lived in New Haven (I bet Provo was cheaper) on about $350/month from my student loans, and I didn't live badly. I had my own bedroom in a large shared apartment, enough money for food and some extra for movies and entertainment, all for about $4,000/year.  $50,000 at that time would have kept me in luxury for many years. In fact, using the CPI-U calculater, having $50,000 in 1968 is like having more than $300,000 now. Gee, it must be hard to live for 2 whole years on a total of only $300,000. The Romneys really suffered!

      •  I'd love to see Democrats... (8+ / 0-)

...really pound Williard on this. Higher education should be a right for all, not a privilege for the wealthiest few.

Also I would like people to ask other repubs if THEY agree with their presidential candidate's statement. Get them all on record saying "you only get the education you can afford, no more".  Additionally, I hope the Obama campaign gets this into a political TV ad...
UNDER ROMENY'S EDUCATION PLAN YOU GET ONLY THE AMOUNT OF EDUCATION YOU CAN AFFORD. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD COLLEGE TOUGH PATOOTIE. AND AS FAR AS ADVANCED DEGREES....FORGET IT.
