  •  I don't think that is a useful analogy (1+ / 0-)

That is a highly charged subject, and most people will become lost in the issues of race and injustice and miss your point entirely.

    •  It is absolutely a useful one, by experience (0+ / 0-)

This type of analogy makes strict logical sense, but that's not why it's any good, because the point isn't to convince them of anything.   The point is to wipe the smug grin off their face.

If 400 years of scientific discovery can't show someone the foolishness of believing in the literal truth of the Bible, nothing any of us says will.  I've dealt with these people for most of my life. They will not respect your candor, your politeness, or your respectful tone, or you, for that matter, no matter how you say what you say (And no matter what they tell you).

The whole point of the presuppositionalist is to seem clever enough to make thinking people look like fools.  It feeds the confirmation bias that they and their followers have about us.  You have to disrupt the feeding frenzy.

You see, seeming clever requires keeping a poker face.  Which requires practice, which they've got in spades.  They're ready for a first-timer's replies; in fact, they will take great delight in seeing you twist with a 'shocked' look on your face.  On the other hand, surprise visits to highly charged topics take the wind out of their sails. Until you get that upper hand, engaging with them is a waste of everybody's time, except theirs.

Conservatives need to realize that their Silent Moral Majority is neither silent, nor moral, nor a majority.

      •  Presippositionalism is nothing more than (0+ / 0-)

a more complex method of saying, "I know you are but what am I?"

        But you are right:

They will not respect your candor, your politeness, or your respectful tone, or you, for that matter, no matter how you say what you say (And no matter what they tell you).
This is how other religions and cultures fell before them in history. Those others, played by rules, the Christians simply made up new rules as they went along.

Others were willing to coexist up to a point, but the Christians, historically took that as permission to burn sacred groves, or cut the wood from those groves to build their churches. Throwing ancient peoples in disarray as plainly as it would if someone were to loot the Vatican to build massive Pagan altars while forcing conversions at the sword, and undermining cultural teachings by influencing children.
