Con Ed’s executive compensation is unsustainable.

In addition to salary, incentive pay and stock options, executive compensation includes multiple retirement, savings, health and welfare plans, as well as supplemental plans only available to executives.

The 2012 Con Ed Proxy Statement shows that Kevin Burke has accumulated more than $18.4 million in pension benefits, with $16.7 million provided in the executive Supplemental Retirement Income Plan (SRIP).

Executive benefits could be a major contributor to the company’s benefit liabilities.

While the pension fund available to workers has historically been well funded through NYS-approved rates, the SRIP, whose liability is included in the overall pension figures, is reported as having no assets.
