    •  I think Repubs will try to get them... (4+ / 0-)

...to try to kill the mandate.

It's the one unpopular part of the bill, so it would be a great victory for Repubs.

But the Repubs will probably make everything else voluntary, so the insurance companies will keep the good stuff (lifetime limits, staying on parents policies, maybe some pre-conditions) for a year or so, and then take them away when nobody's looking.

It's a shell game, basically, and the American people are probably stupid enough to fall for it.

...focused almost exclusively on repealing the mandate -- heck, they'd probably even get a lot of Dems voting for that.

They just want the insurance companies to promise they won't pull the rug out from everybody else for at least a  year or two, so the Repubs don't get the blame when all the guarantees collapse and prices skyrocket, which they will.

          1) Insurance companies are absolutely depending on it. (At one point, I imagined the Supreme Court as keeping ONLY the mandate and throwing everything else out, just to please the insurance companies.)

          2) the GOP would never ever try to provide the multiple protections for consumers of health care that the ACA does. It's not in their vocabulary, their mentality or their ideology.

          3) for progressives to re-litigate ACA after the Supreme Court rules it constitutional seems like a very silly thing to engage in and is often as full of misinformation and disinformation as the very uninformed general public's take on the law.

(I've even seen some so called progressives yelling that the health care providers are going to be the ones enriched by the law. Ridiculous. Insurance companies stiff the providers and gouge the consumers. They've got it made, or did until ACA.)
