    Blue Aardvark, your speculation is very attractive -- almost too attractive.

    Remember that McCain prided himself for being a "maverick" -- which means he might have picked an unknown Alaska governor over Romney even if his financials are squeaky-clean just because of her gender.

      Because for Romney to refute it requires him to embrace Snow Snooki™ as a worthwhile choice - endearing himself to the base, and causing facepalms among the independent voters.

      that I don't think financials were the only reason McCain didn't choose Romney.

      However, McCain was taking heat for his own finances and multiple residences - so I'm confident he didn't want to add Romney's financial issues to his own.

      And I'm also confident he's got them. Like others, I think that full disclosure would reveal that he's got multiple years where he's paid no taxes at all. That's not going to sit well in this economic climate - and it undercuts his attempts to portray himself as just like the rest of us.

      The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy... the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
