...it's anti-Semitism, or is it just that Jews like to complain? /snark

I've been surprised numerous times by people here, and it's sadly growing less and less surprising. Some people never throw off the things they were taught. Sometimes it's entrenched obliviousness, sometimes it's a refusal to believe the people who taught them were wrong, and sometimes it's good old fashioned bigoted stupidity.

I picked up a number of bad habits from my father, who is not a bigoted man but a product of his times. I say this because he did eventually stop casually tossing around certain words somewhere in his late 40s/early 50s, when things came full circle (i.e. his children, myself included, learned better and then taught him why those words were harmful, erasing his teaching-by-example of the use of them in the first place).

Fortunately, it seems like much of today's youth are much more clued in than their predecessors, contrary to "conventional wisdom". This is purely anecdotal, but almost everyone younger than 25 I've spoken to in the past 10 years has conducted themselves with a reflexive acceptance I'm humbled to behold.

The problem with going with your gut as opposed to your head is that the former is so often full of shit. - Randy Chestnut
