  •  Hmmm. (0+ / 0-)

seems to me some other teams are cursed too

    Bills (4 Super Bowl losses)

Bengals (22 years since their last playoff victory)

Browns (have never been to the Super Bowl, owner moved the team to Baltimore and won a Super Bowl)

Cardinals (hardly any playoff appearances at all and when they finally get to the Super Bowl they get jobbed by the refs)

The Vikings are a lot a like the Red Sox because for the most part they are a powerhouse franchise that never quite make it.  They've got 4 Super Bowl losses + three heart breaking NFC championship losses, plus a heart breaking loss in a playoff game to the Dallas Cowboys.

In 1988, Darren Nelson dropped a pass in the endzone on the last play of the game that would have sent the championship to overtime. The Redskins would then crush the Borncos in the Superbowl. In 1975, refs blew a call on a Hail Mary pass that costed the Vikings the playoff game. Bud Grant has maintained that was the best Vikings team ever. In 1998, the first field goal missed in the season costed the Vikings the NFC championship game to Atlanta. The Vikings were favored to win the Superbowl. Then just a couple of years ago, the refs stole the NFC game to the Saints - (we've learned that the Saints were also cheating).

Bills: AFL championships in 1964 and 1965.

Bengals: Not in the league as long as the Vikings

Browns have won a multitude of NFL championships

Cardinals, more like the Cubs, but they did win a championship a long time ago.

If you don't count the Bills AFL championships because the were in the AFL, then the Bills clock starts running in 1967 rather than 1961 like the Vikings do.

      •  That 98 game featured the 'prevent offense' (0+ / 0-)

When the game's on the line, stop taking the risks that have gotten you so close to victory, and instead play it safe.  And lose the game because of it.

Also used by Stanford in their 2012 bowl game.  My teams, both of them are cursed...

      •  Although technically, the Vikings won... (0+ / 0-)

....the 1969 NFL Championship in the last year the NFL and AFL were separate leagues (before losing the Super Bowl to the Chiefs).

9-11 changed everything? Well, Katrina changed it back.

Before the Superbowl, there were NFL and AFL championships. If you don't count the AFL championships, then you can only consider the AFC teams as starting in 1967.
