Upsides is that it wouldn't risk a senate seat for the R's.  I think she's running again this year (?), but would probably be replaced by someone way more right wing than her anyways.

Downsides, hmmm...she's actually pretty consistently pro-choice, right?  And is not a tea party darling at all in general.  And wasn't there some "my family isn't ready for that" component to her not throwing her hat in the ring for POTUS this cycle way back when when all they had to look to was, um.....Romney?

Also, I'd expect we'd have heard about interviews.

    •  Hutchison... (0+ / 0-) not "reliably" pro-choice -- she claims to support the basic right under Roe v Wade, but has voted for all kinds of restrictions.  She's one of those nominally pro-choice pols who talks a good game but is never there when you need them on an actual vote.
But I think she's pro-choice enough that Romney can't go with her.  The antis are suspicious enough, given Romney's record, so he's going to have to pick someone who's 100% anti-choice. I guess Hutchison could have one of those George HW Bush 11th hour conversions, but I doubt it.
