  •  It's not so easy to take an unpopular position (6+ / 0-)

but I happen to agree with you on this.

I understand this is a controversial case that has triggered a lot of strong emotion.  I myself was molested by a music teacher in elementary school too and I agree there's never any reason/excuse to enable predators like Sandusky to commit what he did.

However, I think you are absolutely correct in that no one should be judged solely by our worst deeds or our greatest.   I'm sure all of us can relate to admiring/respecting someone who nonetheless has done something bad in the past.  What's important is that we must know the difference between making excuse for someone we respect, and respecting someone despite the mistakes he/she made in the past.

And know that just because you love someone doesn't mean you condone all his/her wrongdoing.

You perhaps said it better than I can.   I was molested by an older student on a school bus when I was 11.   It was brief, it was nothing like what the author of the post experienced, but I have the tiniest of inklings.   I know that anger is necessary and a part of healing and I would never want to take away someone's anger, and I think that perhaps in my wording I made it sound like I was trying to take away that anger.

      I'm sorry for that.

are showing any understanding of the concept of a rant. Don't come here for a one-off, arm's-length discussion about the theory of child sexual assault, pedophiles, and their enablers. This is a rant. It was identified as one right up front. You are in the wrong discussion for what you're doing.

Rant. Not an academic discussion. If you want to have that discussion, start one in your own diary.

If you can't share people's pain, but have to keep pushing it off with pseudo-objective discussion, this is, again, the wrong diary for you right now.

Obamacare: That hopey-changey thing is working out great for me, thanks for asking.
