  •  I'd be curious what rights you would (6+ / 0-)

    give children.

The state needs to protect children from abusive parents and households, but other than that I'd be very leery of wanting the state to get in the middle of a parent raising their child.

    •  It's not a matter of "giving" rights. (1+ / 0-)

Human rights are endemic, related to our attributes as human beings.  What's at issue is whether or not rights are respected. What rights?

      sustenance
      mobility
      association
      expression
      education

Age is not determinative of rights.

Now, yes, those rights like sustenance and education should be guaranteed to all children.  But with respect to other rights, like association and expression, children are not ready to be responsible for their actions.  So, yes, unless the parents are doing something significantly out of the ordinary, then children belong to their parents until the bond is either separated by age or a legal order.

Do you want to get into what "normal" means?  I believe there are diaries who want to make sure everyone is a Christian.  Shall we have a majority opinion on what is normal?
