    the self-made man or woman in America. My MA thesis in American Studies focused on the idea that very few immigrants came here and struck it rich without considerable assistance, or consent, of those in power. It was and still remains more about who you know rather than what you know that gets you ahead.

      but Mother Jones addressed that Myth.

      She said, in effect, "sure any boy has a chance to grow up and be President, but most of these (poor) boys would sell their chance for a crust of bread."
