  •  SallyCat - I quit smoking about 8 years ago (8+ / 0-)

I had smoked for 20 years...

I know there is a group here that supports quitting - but would also recommend www.quitnet.com - I logged on one Tuesday morning after my husband finally got through to me - I had always complained to him about the weakness of my siblings - being addicted to drugs/alcohol - how weak they were.  And he simply said to me "well, you're addicted too"

Of course I rebuffed him - said I wasn't - but he calmly told me over and over that I was addicted to nicotine - so I was no better than those I was trying to put down.

I woke up the next morning and swore I would never allow nicotine to control me again.  And I quit.  Cold Turkey.  It sucked!  But it is possible.

I wish you the very best on your quit.  It's really about making good choices.

And if you do try that website, I still drop in 8 years later occasionally to provide support and give back- my user name there is catchafire44

Anyway - went on longer than I wanted - just wanted to say congratulations on your decision to quit smoking - and you can get here from there - I never crave, don't think about it, don't miss it - and sometimes I find it hard to believe that I ever smoked at all!

version of quitnet.com.  A whole bunch of quitters, going to quit, and just encouragement.  Whining is allowed...although I think the whining will be nominal this time.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think standing up and really saying "this is who I am, deal with it" has made me see what I need to do for me, not others, in all aspects of my life. Sounds selfish typed out, but such is life, and sometimes selfish is needed to take care of ourselves.
