  •  All moderates are already Democrats. (11+ / 0-)

I've pointed this out in polling research on a few occasions. The Democratic Party IS the moderate party. Almost all self identified moderates are Democrats.

They consider themselves moderate because the Republican Party is so far right on social issues. But on the economic issues, these folks would be Republicans if the GOP wasn't crazy.

See, the Democratic Party is two things:

    1. A base of minorities and highly educated white liberals.

    2. A larger half of suburban moderate middle income earners.

While the Republican Party is also two things:

    1. A base of white bigots and crazies from middle income levels.

    2. A larger half of upper income white collar professionals and business owners.

What the Democratic Party has to do to start making progress on the economic inequality is trade some of their #2 for some of the Republican Party's #1.

The problem we have today is that the GOP is dominated by its #1 and the Democratis are dominated by their #2. So that isolates the Democrats #1 who are the natural enemies of the Republicans #2.

I also think there must be movement on the economic front by Democrats, and think this could be a cynical ploy to push politics into emotional red herrings where electoral political affiliation, the lesser of two evils, will be dominated by social, intractable, emotional issues, leaving economics and corporate sponsored national legislation up to the Establishment.

I was stoked initially upon reading this post by slinkerwink, but I guess I'm holding out for a pony.

Democracy - 1 person 1 vote. Free Markets - More dollars more power.
