  •  I agree on a very deep level. (17+ / 0-)

I am a war baby. I was born six months after Pearl Harbor and a large part of my early childhood memory was of the returning veterans we would see around town, the ones with missing limbs, with damaged brains, with their faces burned off. And we all had friends and relatives suffering PTSD, even if it was still an unrecognized condition. This is the price that was paid to rid the world of Nazism and the images, especially the burned faces, are seared into my memory.

So it is particularly galling to me when I hear their sacrifices being misused so callously by right-wing propagandists.  These bombastic, hate-filled people forget how deep the evil was that these brave young people were fighting. To equate the IRS with the immoral perversities of the Gestapo is reprehensible.

And they also forget how many of those who came back with broken bodies and minds emraced and cherished the liberal principles that these well-fed propagandists rail against. (Consider JFK who suffered for the rest of his shortened life with back injuries he recieved in the war).  To make this kind of comparision is akin to desecration in the mind of one who has seen the first hand the ravages of the war against the Nazis and their minions.
