light of them being raped. I think. I can't tell because the diary goes from complaining about Dominos to complaining about the fraternity that the Bush's belonged to?

6 year old that's a tough subject), the whole concept is when someone says no, you respect their wishes.  That has led to some funny discussions about picking up toys, the kid saying no, me saying "do it", and himsaying I have to respect his wishes :-)  Explanation all along the way is important so they can understand the difference and don't end up telling a cop "no" and getting tazed.  Complicated world, man......

slogan is an appropriation of an older phrase (with which people were already familiar) to raise awareness.

To suggest now that its only, or even primary, historical usage is as an anti-rape slogan is to belittle its origins.

The more I consider your comment, MRobDC, the more offended I am by it.

First of all, the reason I mentioned the Bush connection is to show that this isn't some backwater frat, it's a mainstream Yale frat with prominent alumnus.

But, back to your suggestion that I believe saying "no means no" to a child means I'm making light of them being raped: screw you.

I have had friends, girlfriends, and family members who were raped. I have been a proud, active and vocal supporter of a number of pro-women groups working hard to change people's perceptions of this horrendous crime of violence against mainly women. I myself was molested as a young boy. You can read my account of that HERE. It ruins lives and I can guarantee you that everyone of us knows someone whose life has been negatively impacted by rape, even if they've never shared that with you.

Not only do I not think rape is funny, I will speak out forcefully against ANY attempt to joke about it or minimize the corrosive effect it has on our society and, more particularly, the women in our society. That includes my wife, my daughter and all the women I love. And all the rest, as well.

So screw you with your implications. You know nothing of what you speak. Disagree with me if you wish but do NOT put words or intentions in my mouth.

        Goddam it, now I'm pissed...

is about a rape joke and making light of rape by using a phrase marginally similar to "no means no". The premise of your diary is that that phrase can only be used in reference to rape. You can be pissed all you want, but that is what you wrote.
