    I am the "do it yourself" type.  Also, you are right about domestic airspace.  I remember right after the PATCO controller were fired and desk jockeys from the FAA were pulled in to fill slots at ATC centers and towers.  It was as if the Keystone Cops were in charge of the system. Going in to a major airport like Memphis or Kansas City was like being in the funhouse with the Krazy Clowns.  Even at regional smaller airports, I had several close calls because I was vectored right into the path of another aircraft.  It is a wonder we did not have more accidents during those times.
