    really, really turned me off.  I think Time Enough For Love, which could be subtitled "Lazarus Long's Oedipal Obsession," was the one that did for me.

      and we are both leftists. We talked about Heinlein's ideas in depth and recognized that although Heinlein has a point of view one is not required to accept it.

      My reference actually is to philosophy which can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. I see a lot of conservatives misusing Augustine and Aquinas and Hobbes and Locke and not fully understanding that philosophy is not a tool to beat some one over the head with. Sneering refernces to Wittgenstein made by people who do not understand him is troubling.

      part of learning is learning that teachers have their own problems and foibles.  You can learn from those as well, even while disagreeing completely.

      There are aspects of Heinlein that repel me, but there is enough good to his philosophies that I can accept those as faults and move on.

      I am not religious, and did NOT say I enjoyed sects.
