they don't have to pay out the money on the next premium bill or they get it back, and to the extent the employee didn't contribute, it can go to. . .  profits!

    •  No, it is already money they paid out. And the (0+ / 0-)

money they get back either has to be refunded OR put forward future benefits. So no, they do NOT get to pocket it. And let's not forget, the only folks pocketing profits here are the insurance companies. STILL! That is why so many of us are pissed that we did not get single payer. But this is a start. Once we decouple health insurance from employment, we are on our way. It will not be pretty. But this is what we have been handed. We need to work with it and force through the next step.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

      •  cash is fungible (0+ / 0-)

cash they didn't pay on last year's premium is cash back in as cash flow to pay this year's premium without cutting into the income stream from new sales/goods/services.  It increases the ability to make money.

As for single payer, decoupling from employment, I would think we were more likely to end up with a hybrid, but who knows, the powers that be may eventually respond to the popular will.   If people vote en masse, which they are not likely to do.
