  •  Heh. The deer here are (6+ / 0-)

always browsing for goodies - so the garden is fenced, not the yard (which would be expensive and useless). What we've been getting too much of are bears raiding the compost and trash. The dogs usually keep them on the other side of the ridge, but not this year. And they 'woke up' and started marauding in March this year...

    •  Interesting. I would think a longer bear season (4+ / 0-)

would not be a good thing.

Romney - his fingernails have never been anything but manicured.

in your compost bins or trash. And I don't. I don't mind sharing blackberries and blueberries with them, or even fallen pears in the orchard. But the entire back end of my garden fence is now on the ground, I've had to rebuild the compost bin twice, and the trash mess is a constant headache. Not to mention having to make too much noise while hiking, just to make sure they get out of the way.

Luckily, bears aren't a big threat to the ducks we got Easter when our youngest grandkids were here. Since those bears will munch downed pears right next to deer and turkeys, foxes and weasels are a bigger threat to the Pekins. Who outweigh the turkeys by several pounds already...
