  •  The Story behind the Clayton Bigsby sketch. (1+ / 0-)

Chapelle is from DC.  My dentist has known his family since David was doing started doing stand up.  At the time, he was too young to drive and too young to stay out so late on his own, so his mother used to drive him to his gigs and wait for him to finish.

Anyway, here is the real story behind the Clayton Bigsby sketch......

Dave had an uncle who was very light skinned.  "He was so light, he could pass for white."   I suspect he may have been an  albino because the way my dentist tells it, he had terrible eyesight and could barely see.

Here's how I heard the story:

Back in 1968, after King was assassinated, there were several days of rioting in DC.  Tempers raged.  It was during that time Dave's uncle got on the bus.  He was sitting down and some kids behind him started talking about "that honkey" who had just sat down.  Dave's uncle, hearing this, started looking around and yelling.... "WHERE! WHERE'S THAT HONKY!  LET'S GET THAT HONKY!"   Everyone thought he was nuts.....
