after Taft-hartley and Joe Mccarthy had defanged the unions, and the New Deal was politically hegemonic.    Now, recogtnizing blood on the water, that the unions are far weaker today than they were in those years, that the Dems have no stomach to actually fight for unions and workers per se, but only to the degree that such fights directly advance Dem partisan political careers, the Rubes are throwing off the 20th Century Synthesis.  And the underlying social forces and ideas that led to the building of unions in the first place are entirely dead in today's USA, so the collapse, without replacement, of these vestigial entities under stress is inevitable.  This is one of the key components comprising the 21st Century Social Crisis.
