    ...I have nothing against the concept of good, secure voter identification.  But it should be free and easy to obtain -- the state should pick up all of the cost of obtaining the voter ID (including getting a birth certificate, when necessary), and places to get the ID should be easily accessible in terms of location and operating hours.  Oh, and the state should notify any voters potentially impacted months in advance and let them know exactly what sort of help is available for obtaining the required ID.

    As an aside, Texas DMV offices have become known for horrendous waits over the past few years -- which means that they will also be a bottleneck for those trying to obtain their voter ID cards.

    But I wonder how many voters can link the increasingly long lines at DMV offices with the increasingly underfunded status of our state government under that SOB Rick Perry?
