  •  Boycotts are a partial solution (24+ / 0-)

What would put a stake in Rush's dark heart is exposing how he actually gets paid.

Limbaugh has a contract for close to half-a-billion dollars over ten years. Talk radio's normal business model will never yield that kind of return. Some person or group is paying him enormous amounts of money to propagandize the politically ignorant.

    •  Corporate advertisers defrauded? (20+ / 0-)

If I'm a corporation paying thousands of dollars to advertise on this station and network and I find that the station and network are falsifying the popularity of the show, I'm being defrauded, especially when I'm not privy to the network hiring callers to blow smoke up the host's arse.

Corporations that are spending money on this show need to answer to their shareholders as far as why they are sinking advertising cash into a show that is charging them rates that bear no relationship to the number of people actually listening.

      •  So, now you don't want to count the paid listeners (5+ / 0-)

Rush gets from the GOP Rebananapublican Party along with the free unpaid slaves to racist hatefilled opinion?

Don't you see the free market value of Total Information & Message Control here?  You get to help subsidize the GOP Propaganda Catapults, Inc. by buying ads for paid listeners and callers...it's the GOP American Dream baby! Driven from top to bottom 100% by pure, unadulterated US Dollar Sign following greed!  If you want to own a piece of this action, well, you'll have to contact Bain Capital for a prospectus and exclusive presentation (conditional upon signing their NDA--you can't disclose what they show you)..

It's better than payolla radio, it's the New Improved GOP Payrolla Radio!  And Rmoney's elite Bain Capital is right there at the forefront, balls in, bankrolling and owning the propaganda catapults and echo chambers and the chattering emoting echoers themselves. Advertisers get to come along joining the Party of Precisely Focused Hate and Love on a subsidized ride.  The audiences is already worked up and rationality bypassed, all set for the host who will happily prostitute himself/herself for your gold melting services, silver investments, timeshare Atlantic Ocean beach front property opportunities, etc. and will include your product in the litany of items to love--as truly great original American values. They will be clearly separated from the litanies of treasonous things and people for listeners and followers to hate. Just don't quit once you start, or you end up on Santa Rush's Naughty Traitor Hater List.

for the most part are the wealthy class.

if the garbage Limpbaugh is spewing every day attracts paying sponsors/advertisers, that means the shareholders
        make money

that is all they care about. they're laughing at the fact progressives are getting all bent about Limpbaugh. that's another form of advertising for them

        •  Maybe I wasn't clear (0+ / 0-)

I was referring to the shareholders of the advertisers. If my corporation is paying a fortune for ads but not profiting due to ginned-up ratings then I and my corporation are being defrauded.

          •  I Get It (0+ / 0-)

but.. I'm not so sure advertisers are paying a "fortune" to get time on rush's show.

            is the cost published anywhere?

I'm not convinced the money for salaries for him and the rest of the hacks comes "solely" from advertising revenue

....overpaying for a show that they probably can't recoup from their local advertisers, and with national advertisers bailing, it just makes it worse.

(I'm talking about regional market owners, NOT Clear Channel/Entercom/Infinity, etc....)

      with the "expose them" nonsense.

Please understand this sort of behavior by the wealthy class is expected by the majority of people.. it's nothing new or shocking.

I hope you're not implying Limpbaugh wields this enormous power over the dumb masses, and that 1,000's of new listeners are flocking to his show every week.

the numbers just don't support that.

Limpbaugh is preaching to the same brainwashed choir, day after day. many of whom probably don't even vote
