    on that. But - what's the point of it?  I mean, the teabaggers already know Rmoney isn't crossing that racial Rubicon.  It was pretty much understood already.  If you point is correct (and maybe it is), wasn't it a bit of overkill?  I mean, talk about gilding the lily.

    In addition, if this plays badly to those vaunted moderates, then didn't the whole escapade backfire?

      ...Romney is all that popular with the Tea Party base.  In fact, a segment of them appear to be so turned off as to stay home.  Plus, as a Blue State government he doesn't have a TP record.  I agree with the poster above that this is dual purpose: appeal to moderates while showing that the "militant blacks" don't like the white guy in the race.  This is Romney's way of saying: "I'm one of you, offended white people."
