  •  Ways to Listen to DK Radio (4+ / 0-)

There is the straight out embedded player that you can find up top. This player works however also requires that you keep your browser open. It's also from what I've experienced prone to occasional drop outs which require you to either refresh the page or close the stream and reopen.

    There are, however, alternatives!

WinAmp, its free and it works for both Mac and PC. Technically speaking you can utilize your default media-player (save for VLC, boo AOL) but I find Winamp to be pretty slick when it comes to shoutcast streams. You can either manually click the direct link here Clicking this link after you install WinAmp will launch the player and the stream. If you want, you can also search the shoutcastpage for Blue Skies Radio. It should be the first one there, you may need to change your cookie settings for the website so that it players in your default player. As I said, I personally prefer using the winamp application and not its extensions like the browser bar, etc.... It's also a pretty nifty mp3 player and has some decent tools for managing your play lists. Enough of me shilling for winamp.

Onto the next way you can listen.

There is also your smartphone. Now obviously I cannot even begin to encompass all devices here so I'll try and cover three of the larger ones.

First the one I am most familiar with. The BlackBerry, which normally would hamper me from multimedia experiences (damn you RIM!) but thankfully someone has actually written an app for this. Its called TuneWiki - Lyrics with Music and you can find it on the BlackBerry App world. I am going to warn you, its kind of clunky. In any event you will want to load the application up and in the top right corner choose the second from the right icon. Choose shoutcast radio. Then search, now you want to search for Blue Skies. It should be the only option to tap and once tapped should start the stream. No worries about name changes once it goes to DK Radio either, the stream address does not change. To save in your favorites click the plus icon. The app is a memory hog though, so don't expect to do all but the most basic stuff when using it. Calls will interrupt the stream and then resume once done. Incoming message notification sounds will play at whatever volume you have the phone set to, so if the player volume is high you could miss a notification. Just some things to keep in mind.

Iphone or pad, you guys get it easy. There is an app that is much sleeker to use. The procedure is more or less unchanged. Get the app and then search for Blue Skies Radio. You can find a link to the app here

Android. We are venturing into uncharted territory here for me, but I have on good authority from a friend that the app StreamFurios works well. Essentially it embeds into the browser so that all you need to do is click on the link above and it will launch the player. A word of warning, its in the alpha stages of development so use at your own risk.

Hope that helps some folks. There are also ways to stream it through your Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Sony folks are lucky, its pretty straight forward while Xbox folks are going to need a pretty elaborate setup. I won't cover them at the moment, unless people really want me to.

If you missed the broadcast, you can catch it by following David as he will usually throw up the broadcast shortly later that day. Those with fancy apple products can just listen right away, those of us stuck in the dark ages without a flash player enabled product cough RIM cough will have to click the direct link to download the mp3 for listening later on that day. Say like on the way home, its not like All Things Considered is getting any better right?

Hope this makes it easier for you all to enjoy our brand spanking new radio stars on Daily KOS Radio.
