  •  That's exactly what it takes. :-) (10+ / 0-)

And how Obama won his US Senate seat here in IL, door by door, mile by mile across the entire state, especially the southern/rural areas. Ya know, that grassroots thingy.

I remember back in 2004 when Jack Ryan, the Republican primary winner in the IL-Sen race, was implicated in a sex scandal and dropped out of the race, Obama went on a statewide tour of Illinois building up grassroots support for his U.S. Senate campaign while then-Illinois GOP chairwoman Judy Baar Topinka and her operatives had serious trouble finding a replacement Republican nominee before finally carpetbagging Alan Keyes into Illinois to run against Obama. Obama won in a massive landslide, and four years later, was elected President of the United States. I was 14 years old at the time, and my parents were never more enthusiastic about voting for anyone like they were in 2004 when they voted for Obama for U.S. Senate.

Now, it's 2012, and Tammy Baldwin is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin. Since she doesn't have any Democratic primary challengers running against her, and four Republicans are tearing each other apart in an increasingly nasty primary fight, Baldwin is building up grassroots support for her campaign, much like Obama did in 2004.
