  •  It takes a deft wit. (10+ / 0-)

Seth MacFarlane pretty much goes after everyone, but he also subtly manages to have the butt of the jokes be the oppressor, not the oppressed.

Which is why Family Guy is funny more often than not. Though, the Peter getting raped by a bull bit didn't really sit right with me.

      •  That was indeed pretty disturbing (0+ / 0-)

..and, I suppose, meant to be. I also vaguely remembered a scene from a much earlier film that I felt like the bit was spoofing, but I couldn't place it.

An entire graduate class could be devoted to what the hell MacFarlane is up to with his edgier humor.

    •  I also like the inversions (0+ / 0-)

Where the stereotype is inverted after you're presented with it for long enough to get offended by it.  For example, where Peter starts doing crack, Brian asks him where he got it, and he simply says "From blacks.".  To which Brian responds, "What?!" and Peter clarifies, "From Black's Hardware Store.  There's a white guy down there selling it."

Seth does indeed go too far sometimes, though; he needs to work on his limits better.
