    You're using effectively meaningless words there.  Put some real numbers on them.

    As far as i'm concerned, within the next century is SHORT TERM. And i think you'll agree that we'll run out of practical fossil fuel supplies before then.  In the meantime, we'll need to either tool up whole new swaths of infrastructure, or collapse. And i'm not a big fan of global economic collapse myself.
