  •  The Tea Party will hold their nose and vote Romney (19+ / 0-)

But they may not volunteer with the same enthusiasm depending on the VP choice and the direction of the campaign.  Also, on the most local of levels, their lack of enthusiasm for Romney may be felt by those who know and interact with them.

A movement that strives to own "American" isn't going to want to own Swiss bank accounts, tax havens in the Caribbean, or a Mormon mission to France to avoid the Vietnam War.

    •  My hope is (7+ / 0-)

not to win their sad hearts and dim minds, nor even to expect them to stay home.

My hope is, with Mitt as the face of Capitalism, writ as large as can be writ, the 'baggers' vision of Freedom! and Not Communism! will be less bright.  It will be harder to them to convince their less engaged friends and neighbors.  And I do pray that translates into winning back the House.

    •  But in every group like The Teabaggers there (1+ / 0-)

is a range of "true belief" from the "into the Gates of Hell" to the "well I might go to a meeting tonight but then again there is that Gilligan Marathon on" and so lets say that 10-20% of Teabaggers are in the weak "I'd rather stay home an watch Gilligan" segment well that means come voting time they'll maybe just stay home if Romney is hammered flat.

    •  And you only need 5-10% of them to stay home (0+ / 0-)

to make a huge, insurmountable lead for Obama.

Add to this the trial balloon on putting Condi Rice on the ticket; she is probably the only remotely qualified potential VP candidate they have named, but after beating the drums of hatred for so long (remember the Tea Party that was just about fiscal conservatism, but got proven to be more about social conservatism, especially on the issue of the color of the President's skin?) that just the trial balloon has made this revolt against Romney even worse.

Couple the evangelicals that may stay home because Romney is in a "cult" and Romney is making McCain look like a strong candidate.

(It is wrong for the Tea Partiers to hate Romney for considering a Black woman and for the evangelicals to consider not voting because of his religion - there are many reasons not to vote for Romney, but those are not the correct reasons to vote against him.  Irony, sweet irony that the hatred Republicans have been spewing since Reagan - really it got a lot worse in 1994 with Gingrich's Contract on America - is coming back to bite them in the arse!)

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.
