  •  A lot of the Tea Party vote…….. (25+ / 0-)

is not just about the idiots who put on Tri-corner hats with tea bags, hold up misspelled signs and show up at rallies to claim that they are not racists.   True, these folks will go through hell and high-water to vote against Obama.

However, for every visible, vocal, “keep guvimint out of my Medicare” bagger there are scores and scores of white, fundamentalist and evangelical voters who do not fully buy into the bagger mentality but who have sympathized with the movement and who voted Rethug in 2010.  These are the voters that are not and will not be excited about the RMoney candidacy for a number of reasons;  his money, his Mormonism, his whining, his lying, his flip-flopping, his business practices, his lack of an articulated program, etc, etc.

RMoney is not being talked up in diners, church foyers and around water coolers the way a Rethug POTUS candidate needs to be to win.   Hopefully, the billions from the Koch’s and others will not replace this lack of enthusiasm.

    •  If Romney becomes a sinking ship (14+ / 0-)

Will the Koch brothers and their fellow gazillionaires jump into a life boat and save their billions for a future battle?

      •  You don't get to be that rich... (8+ / 0-)

... by throwing good money after bad.  If the recent revelations have the impact they should have on the polls -- and the jury's still out on that -- I think any billionaire worth his/her salt would have to start looking into alternative investments.

        •  pragmatism vs idealism (5+ / 0-)

at some point, the rich cons who are backing R Money will realize he has no chances of winning. The question to them will be, will they keep putting money down the drain with Romney, or cut our losses and back out?

But the Koch bros, ad nauseum, now have another problem- they have presented themselves as champions of the con movement, so, if they quit dumping money into Romney, they will risk exposing themselves for what they are- cons using the GOP to make more money for themselves. Further, will those who have so blindly followed the Koch bros, etc., turn on them when they cut off the cash flow? I doubt the sheep of the GOP and the bagged are that smart, but this could be interesting.

There is a huge potential for this to blow up in the GOP's face, taking down the rich cons with them. It already has started to fall apart, and I think there is plenty more to come. Do the Koch brothers, etc.,  see that they could go down with the Romney ship, if they stay on it? I am certain the Obama team has a lot of ammo stored and will keep a steady stream of attacks coming. Bain is just the first round..

      •  If Romney enters the convention bloodied up (10+ / 0-)

too badly to carry the election, they'll probably throw more money at the down ticket races. I expect they won't be as free with the cash flow for Romney's election, though I don't see them giving up completely. We're talking about the party that won election by way of a Supreme Court decision so anything is possible.

will go to the congressional races.  Put it this way,(in the minds of Koch/Rove Cartel) what good President Obama will be if he has to deal with GOP/Tea party control of the House and Senate. They make life hell for the president and for all of us for the next four years. Like baseball Romney will be their sacrificial fly ball that may score some Tea Party runs. (at least in the minds of the Kochs and their henchmen)
