  •  greenotron - the students have no damages (0+ / 0-)

For a variety of reasons the students could not successfully sue Penn State if the football program was given the death penalty. The students would not really have any direct damages. If the Penn State football program received the death penalty all of the players who had football scholarships would be able to stay at Penn State on scholarships until their five years was up, or they graduated. Those few who are real NFL prospects would receive offers from other schools to play, even if it was just for one more year.

    •  That sounds equitable - no harm, (0+ / 0-)

no foul, as they say.  A further reason not to support the program.

Another point, though, is the "spirit" of the players. I would think it would be very hard to be committed to a system that perpetrated such crap. I'd hope most of the players would want to leave, in any case, rather than be attached to such wrong-doing - seems to me it would besmirch all future sports, for them. I can imagine the trash talk they would be subjected to for the rest of their lives. Better to get out, just for their own self respect.

and they have a new class of recruits entering as freshman this fall. It's also not for us to decide if they should want to be part of Penn State football, it's for them. The new coaching staff want to make people proud of a new era of Penn State football and I think they should be given every opportunity.
