  •  The quote by CEO Tom Wroe is tells you what you (15+ / 0-)

    need to know.

"I appreciate your comments regarding understanding the competitive pressure facing companies in today's global marketplace and I assure you that we strive to balance our duty to our shareholders with our duty as corporate citizens, just as you strive to balance the interests of your local constituents with that which is best for our country," responded Wroe. "Closing the Freeport facility is the right strategy for our business in order to deliver value to our shareholders and to support our global customers."
"Our country" comes last. They act as corporate citizens not as American citizens. They serve their shareholders and global customers. Their duty as US citizens--working for their country--is just an abstraction.  Nearly meaningless.

    •  Deliver Value to Our Shareholders ... (3+ / 0-)

We can't raise taxes on income over $250k because it will cost the US jobs, but we have no problem cutting jobs, 175 Sensata employees for example, so we can "deliver value to shareholders".  Maybe we should get rid of these shareholders, they are costing the US millions of jobs!

For me, Mitt reminds me of Jeff Bridges in Starman. He's like an alien that hasn't read the entire manual. You know, he's going, "Nice to be in a place where the trees are the right size. -- Robin Williams on Letterman 26 Apr 2012
