    to fight -- while making money off both sides for personal gain -- is "not respectful".  No more.

    I wish there were a place to rest
    or that this long, long road would end;
    and that a hundred thousand years
    from now, there were a hope that from
    the earth we’d bloom to breathe again.

      I didn't advocate a position. But I do think it's a little more complicated. Or is it respectful to stand around blinking while another government -- one that the rest of the world has had to interact with in the past for political reasons -- shoots the crap out of its own people on a large scale?

      I don't know what the right thing is, I'm not advocating intervention at all. But I do chafe at oversimplified presentations of the ethics here, from any "side."

        of it all.

        Always we find "after" - that the reasons were just smokescreen for what the PTB want... no matter the tremendous costs to everyone but... the PTB.

          Choose to prevent genocide, wherever and whenever you possibly can.

            Since my family fared poorly under the Soviet Empire, and we were keenly aware of how the lack of support, say in Hungary in 1956, lead to massive repression and murders, it is easier for me than most to come to the conclusion that supplying arms for people to defend themselves against others who want to kill them can be the right thing to do.  As you say, choose to prevent genocide, wherever and whenever you can.  That goes for any other kind of government inspired slaughter.

            However, as I say, my history biases me.

            Timaeus agrees with doc2 again.
