it was important to say 10 yr cost was less than a trillion.   Now, CBO scoring 1.7T...goes up every year.  Yeah, that  tax/penalty thing too.

Witness the difference between political reality and politics...

This human thought process is as old as...humanity. Hell, probably even older. So Obama, Reid, Pelosi should have seen this coming. Their allowing healthcare reform to not kick in (mostly) till 2014 was a huge political blunder. If it had kicked in before the 2010 elections, Pelosi would still be Speaker of the House, Reid would command a filibuster-proof Senate majority, and they'd now by popular demand be carving Obama's smiling face into a 5th spot on Mt. Rushmore.
in hindsight,  perhaps the economy and jobs should've been job one?

Still voting for Dems and Obama.  New Dem leadership required in House & Senate, tired of octogenarian-nearing pols and their synchophant fellow "leadership" choices...

Somebody said Party! I got excited. I love Parties! Especially Parties with exclamation marks! Now I'm sad because there's not a Party! h/t AnnetteK ;-)

Failure of leadership. Obama-Reid-Pelosi should've pointed out:

      1. Immediate healthcare reform > Dem popularity > continuing Dem control of House, Senate, White House > power to get deficit under control by (a) reforming tax code, (b) passing more & better stimulus.

      2. If you (speaking to Mr./Ms. Recalcitrant Blue Dog Congresscitter) don't get on board this damn healthcare train, you will lose all committee seats, no museums-bridges-roads-etc. for your district, and any legislation with your name on it will wither up and die.

Kent Conrad, Ben Nelson, hillbilly what's her name, etc.
The Senate Stall executed by the gop and abetted by these chicken shit Dem senators.

We got a bill, a massive, complicated. difficult achievement, that was far from perfect.
However, it created the structure for further reforms, ultimately a single payer system.
It was not properly sold to the people. However, it's slowly gaining steam.
        Yes, they did make mistakes.
"Failure of leadership?" That's a classic case of armchair quarterbacking.

        Obama-Reid-Pelosi should've pointed out
"Pointed out?" They had to do a lot more than point something out. They had to fight, cajole, persuade, persevere over months to get this thing through.

I agree with part of the tone of your diary. The Dems hopefully have learned that their in DC to do something for the people, and they have to fight the gop every step of the way.
2009 and the election of 2010 should be the last lesson they need to understand that when they have the gop on the mat they need to make sure they stay there.

You can't make this stuff up.

...it was the Blue Dogs who most needed Obama to succeed, because they were the ones most in danger of losing their seats. By gumming up the works, they insured a  lower level of job creation and a less effective, less popular healthcare bill. And sure enough, they were the ones who ended up out on their asses in November 2010. Hillbilly whatsername (Blanche Lincoln) was Exhibit A for Blue Dogs Shoot Themselves In Their Own Asses.
